500 MHz Pentium-class SBC supports Video, Ethernet, USB, and 4 COM channels while operating from -40° to +85°C April 3, 2007, ESC-SV, San Jose, CA - WinSystems today introduced their PPM-GX, a PC/104-Plus compatible single board computer (SBC) based upon the low power, high-integration AMD GX500@1W processor. This SBC operates throughout the temperature range of -40° to +85°C without the need for a fan. The board integrates the CPU, video, Ethernet, USB, COM, LPT, mouse, audio, and keyboard controllers onto one board yet it measures only 3.6" x 3.8" (90mm x 96mm). PPM-GX will run x86-compatible software for space- and power-limited embedded designs. It is targeted for the industrial telecommunication, homeland security, transportation, data communication, MIL/COTS and information appliance markets. The PPM-GX is based upon the AMD (Sunnyvale, CA) GX500@1W processor. It is a Pentium-class CPU with an x86-native instruction set and 32KB of integrated L1 cache that efficiently runs Windows CE, Windows XP embedded, Linux, and other x86-compatible operating systems such as VxWorks and QNX. The PPM-GX supports up to 512-Mbytes of SDRAM. The PPM-GX also offers support for both rotational and solid state disks. Two floppy disk drives and two UltraDMA 66 IDE drives can be connected. Plus there is a socket for a CompactFlash card which can support up to an 8 Gbyte device. This solid state disk solution is a viable alternative for fragile floppy and/or hard disk drives for use with harsh environmental applications. A high-performance graphics controller is integrated into the AMD GX 500@1W processor that supports both CRT and flat panel displays. It can support resolutions up to 1600 x 1200 (CRT) or up to 1280 x 1024 (Flat panel). The PPM-GX also includes an Intel 10/100 Ethernet controller, four 16C550-compatible UARTs, and two USB ports. Other peripheral functions supported include: a floppy disk controller, IDE hard disk interface, PS/2 keyboard controller, line printer (LPT) interface, mouse port, battery-backed real-time clock, precision power-fail reset circuit, and programmable watchdog timer. Additionally, it supports PC/104 or PC/104-Plus expansion I/O modules that are available from vendors worldwide. The PPM-GX draws typically 1.5 A at +5V (˜ 8W) during normal operation.
